Marina Solodkin was born in Moscow and died in her hotel room in Riga, Latvia after attending a conference, 16 March 2013, at age 60. Solodkin, a long time champion of immigrant rights, was elected to the Israeli Parliament in 1996 in the Likud party and later moved to the Kadima party with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. She served as deputy immigration and absorption minister twice and also as chairwoman of the Knesset\'s Committee on the Status of Women.<br />\r\n++++++++<br />\r\nAt the time Marina asked me not to publish this photo, as I shot it on assignment for Stern Magazine, I believe. It was during the six months I was freelancing between jobs at Reuters and then EPA. I agreed - not sure why. I think I was taken by the grace this woman had. I was shooting pictures of her in her office with lights and then went to the entrance of the Knesset, as she waited for a ride, and shot another roll - on a 6x6 camera. An old Rolleiflex. Great camera. This is a scan from a contact sheet, so a tiny bit fuzzy I think - If I print it it should look great, as it\'s a 6x6...... and then we went digital. Whoosh.
